The Punjab Government has extended school holidays across the state in view of the severe cold and dense fog affecting the region. The decision has been taken to ensure the safety and well-being of students and school staff during the harsh winter conditions.
Sharing the information on social media, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Bains said that the move was made following the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. He stated that continuous cold weather and fog have increased health risks, especially for children, making it necessary to extend the winter break.

According to the official announcement, all government, aided, recognized, and private schools in Punjab will remain closed until January 7. Schools will reopen and resume normal classes from January 8.
The government emphasized that the decision was taken keeping in mind the health and safety of students, teachers, and other school staff. Extreme cold, along with low visibility due to fog, has been affecting daily life and increasing the chances of illness among children.
Parents and teachers have welcomed the decision, saying it will help protect students from seasonal illnesses such as colds, coughs, and flu. The education department has also advised parents to ensure children stay warm and follow basic winter safety measures during the extended holidays.
The Punjab Government continues to monitor weather conditions closely and has assured that further decisions will be taken if required to safeguard public health and safety.
