A blackout mock drill will be conducted across Punjab today, April 24, at 8 PM. This exercise is being organized to test civil defense preparedness in case of emergencies such as air raids or similar situations. The drill is being carried out as per the directions of the Ministry of Home Affairs and will take place in all districts of the state.

The mock exercise will begin with an air raid warning signal. Sirens with high and low pitch sounds will be played for about two minutes to alert people. After this, selected areas identified by the Deputy Commissioners, who also act as Civil Defense Controllers, will experience a simulated blackout.
During the blackout period, residents in these identified areas will be asked to switch off all non-essential lights. The aim is to create a real-life emergency scenario so that both authorities and the public can understand how to respond effectively. However, essential services such as hospitals, emergency response teams, and other critical operations will continue to function normally without any interruption.
The electricity department will temporarily cut power supply in certain areas to create complete darkness as part of the drill. Authorities have clearly stated that there is no need for panic, as this is only a practice exercise to improve safety and preparedness.
In addition to the blackout, emergency response activities like firefighting, rescue operations, first aid services, and traffic control will also be demonstrated. These efforts are meant to ensure that in case of a real emergency, the system works smoothly and people remain safe.
Citizens are advised to stay calm, follow instructions, and cooperate with officials during the drill.
