A major political change has taken place in Tamil Nadu as actor-turned-politician Joseph Vijay officially took oath as the new Chief Minister of the state. Vijay took the oath in Tamil during a grand ceremony attended by political leaders and supporters.

During the oath-taking event, Vijay reportedly spoke beyond the written lines prepared for the ceremony. At that moment, Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan interrupted him and asked him to read only the officially approved text. The moment quickly became a topic of discussion among people and on social media.
Vijay has now become the 9th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Along with him, nine other ministers also took oath as members of the new cabinet. All the ministers belong to his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). No MLA from supporting alliance parties has been included in the first cabinet so far.

After the election results, there was suspense over government formation. However, TVK received support from VCK and IUML, helping Vijay move forward to form the government. Vijay had met the Governor on May 9 and submitted his claim to form the government. He has been asked to prove his majority in the Assembly by May 13, 2026.
Interestingly, the oath ceremony timing was reportedly changed from afternoon to morning following advice from Vijay’s astrologer. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was also present in Chennai during the special occasion.
