The Congress party has escalated its demand for transparency in electoral funding, urging the Supreme Court to initiate a high-level inquiry into the controversy surrounding the election bond scheme. Following the release of election bond data by the Election Commission on Thursday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized the need for scrutiny into the financial transactions of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Kharge criticized the BJP’s stance on corruption, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s oft-repeated slogan of ‘Na Khaunga, Na Khane Doonga’ (I will not indulge in corruption, nor allow others to do so). He asserted that recent revelations in the Supreme Court have exposed how the BJP allegedly profited from the election bond scheme.
The call for a Supreme Court-led investigation comes amid growing concerns over the transparency and integrity of electoral funding in India. The Congress party has urged for a freeze on transactions from BJP’s bank accounts until the truth regarding the election bond scheme is uncovered.
As the debate over electoral finance intensifies, political parties brace for heightened scrutiny and public scrutiny ahead of crucial elections, underscoring the importance of accountability and transparency in the democratic process.
