The Congress party today took a jab at Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, suggesting that he was indirectly criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi for comments made abroad that allegedly defamed India. Congress leader Supriya Shrinet emphasized that the Vice President’s position should remain neutral and not align with any political party.
Dhankhar’s remarks came in response to comments made by Rahul Gandhi during his visit to the U.S., where Dhankhar suggested that individuals in constitutional positions should refrain from making statements that undermine India’s constitution abroad. He described such comments as showing an “anti-constitutional mentality.”
In response, Supriya Shrinet said, “I believe Vice President Dhankhar was showing a mirror to Prime Minister Modi, who has made similar statements abroad in countries like China, South Korea, Canada, the U.S., and the U.K.”
Meanwhile, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also condemned the remarks made by Dhankhar regarding Gandhi.
Additionally, at an event in Mumbai, Dhankhar highlighted the challenging conditions under which institutions like the Election Commission and investigation agencies operate, warning that criticism could demoralize them. This remark followed comments from a Supreme Court judge urging the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to work without external pressure, further adding to the debate.
