In a bold statement, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has called for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to clarify its position on recent claims regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s divinity. Kejriwal’s remarks follow a series of statements attributed to Modi and senior BJP leaders that have stirred significant controversy.
Back in 2014, Modi referred to himself as the “Pradhan Sevak” (chief servant) of the country, emphasizing his role as a public servant. By 2019, he adopted the title of “Chowkidar” (watchman), underscoring his commitment to protecting India’s interests.
However, the discourse took a dramatic turn in 2024 when Modi reportedly claimed he was not born from his mother’s womb but is an incarnation of God. This statement was further amplified when a senior BJP leader suggested that even Lord Jagannath, a revered deity, is a devotee of Modi.
Kejriwal’s demand for clarity from the RSS, the ideological parent of the BJP, has added a new dimension to the ongoing debate. “Does RSS also believe that Modi Ji is an incarnation of God?” Kejriwal asked, urging the organization to publicly state its position.
This call for clarification places the RSS in a challenging position, as it must navigate between traditional Hindu beliefs and the increasingly personalistic cult surrounding Modi. The response from the RSS will be keenly watched by political observers and the public alike.
