In a strong statement against terrorism in Kashmir, Home Minister Amit Shah announced stringent new measures to curb the influence of terrorist organizations in the region. In an interview on Monday, Shah declared that no family member or close relative of a terrorist or stone-thrower would be eligible for government employment in Jammu and Kashmir.
Shah emphasized the Modi government’s comprehensive strategy not only targeting terrorists but dismantling the entire terror ecosystem. “In Kashmir, we have taken a decision that if someone joins a terrorist organization or indulges in stone-throwing, their family members will not get any government job,” Shah asserted.
This approach, he noted, has contributed to a significant decrease in terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. “Terror incidents have gone down significantly in J&K as the government has not only targeted terrorists but has also eliminated the entire terror ecosystem,” he said.
Addressing concerns about human rights, Shah acknowledged that some activists had challenged the decision in the Supreme Court, but the government’s stance prevailed. He clarified that exceptions would be made if a family member cooperates with authorities, providing information about a relative’s involvement in terrorist activities. In such cases, relief would be granted to the family.
Shah also highlighted the government’s efforts to curb the glorification of terrorists. Previously, large funeral processions were common for deceased terrorists, but this practice has been stopped. “We have ensured that the terrorist is buried with all religious formalities, but in an isolated place,” he said.
Furthermore, Shah lauded the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) robust actions against terror funding, stating that these measures have successfully ended financial support for terrorism.
These measures underline the government’s commitment to restoring peace and normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir by not only targeting active militants but also breaking the support structures that sustain them.
