The Supreme Court expressed concern over the missing document needed for the post-mortem in the rape and murder case of a trainee female doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. The court has asked the CBI to investigate the matter and submit a fresh report by September 17. The bench, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, also questioned the 14-hour delay by Kolkata Police in registering the FIR.

In response to the ongoing doctors’ strike in West Bengal, the Supreme Court directed the protesting doctors to return to work by 5 PM on Tuesday, assuring them that no adverse action would be taken against them. The West Bengal government had previously assured the court that no penalties would be imposed on doctors resuming work. The strike, initiated in response to the murder, has led to the deaths of 23 patients. The CBI has decided to send forensic samples to AIIMS for further examination, while the CISF has been ordered to provide security to RG Kar Hospital.
