The Supreme Court is set to hear a case on September 17 regarding the rape and murder of a resident doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This case has gained attention as resident doctors continue their strike, despite the court’s orders to return to work by 5 pm on September 10.
The ongoing strike has severely impacted medical services, with the state government reporting that 23 patients have died as of September 9 due to the absence of doctors in hospitals. The situation has led to growing concerns about the welfare of patients across the state.
In response, the state government has invited the striking doctors to a meeting today to address the issue and find a resolution. The upcoming Supreme Court hearing is viewed as critical, given the doctors’ refusal to end their protest and the rising number of deaths attributed to the strike.
