A 46-year-old woman, Nemjakhol Lahungdim, lost her life during a violent clash between two armed groups in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district. The confrontation occurred on Sunday night in the remote village of Thangbuh, where several houses were also set ablaze, forcing residents to flee to nearby forests for safety.
In response to the escalating violence, authorities have imposed a curfew in Imphal East and West districts, aiming to prevent further unrest. This comes after students launched protests demanding peace in the Imphal Valley. Additionally, prohibition orders under Section 163(2) of the Thoubal BNSS have been enforced to maintain order.
The deceased woman’s body was returned to her family after a post-mortem examination at Churachandpur District Hospital. Police reported that the clash involved the use of powerful weapons, and CRPF personnel stationed near a local school intervened during the conflict.
