A small aircraft collided with a parked plane during landing at Kalispell City Airport in Montana on Wednesday afternoon, but no fatalities or serious injuries were reported. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. when a Socata TBM 700 turboprop, carrying four people, struck a stationary aircraft on the runway.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the impact was strong enough to ignite both planes. Fire crews quickly extinguished the flames, preventing further damage. Kalispell Police Chief Jordan Venezio and Fire Chief Jay Hagen stated that the small plane approached from the south side of the runway before hitting the parked aircraft.
All four occupants of the landing plane were safely evacuated. Two passengers sustained minor injuries and received first aid at the scene. Witnesses reported hearing a loud noise followed by thick black smoke rising from the airport.
Kalispell, a city in northwestern Montana with a population of around 30,000, is located just south of the airport. FAA records show that the involved plane was manufactured in 2011 and is registered to Meter Sky Pullman, Washington. Federal and local authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
