The West Bengal government has announced a new policy under which it will directly purchase land and hand it over to investors for industrial projects. The announcement was made during the foundation stone ceremony of a hosiery manufacturing project in Hooghly district. The government said the move is aimed at avoiding land-related disputes and protests similar to those seen in Singur and Nandigram in the past.

According to the new policy, the government will acquire land through direct purchase instead of forcing land acquisition for private industries. Officials said this system is already being used for infrastructure projects such as railways, airports, and border security facilities.
Business organisations in the state welcomed the decision, saying it would remove one of the biggest hurdles to investment and encourage both new and existing industries to expand. They believe the policy will improve investor confidence, speed up industrial development, create more employment opportunities, and strengthen the state’s economic growth in the coming years.
