Election Commission Urges Vigilance Against Smuggling Ahead of Punjab Lok Sabha Elections

As Punjab gears up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India has directed all Deputy Commissioners, Police Commissioners, and District Police Chiefs to heighten surveillance to curb drug, cash, and liquor smuggling across the state. In a crucial meeting spearheaded by the Deputy Election Commissioner, officials were instructed to ensure stringent measures at polling stations to enhance voter turnout during the elections.

The Election Commission team emphasized the need for proper arrangements for the accommodation of Central Force personnel arriving from outside to fulfill security duties during voting. Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer, Sibin C., reaffirmed the commitment to conducting the Lok Sabha elections in a transparent and unbiased manner, assuring the Election Commission of fair proceedings without external influence.

Furthermore, Sibin C. underscored the enforcement of the Model Election Code and reiterated efforts to combat the smuggling of illicit substances like drugs and liquor. Special attention is being given to incorporating culturally reflective themes into the polling station setup, expanding the number of polling stations, and enhancing the overall voting experience to encourage greater voter participation.

The Election Commission team commended the state’s initiatives and efforts, recognizing the dedication towards ensuring a smooth electoral process. With heightened vigilance and comprehensive arrangements in place, Punjab aims to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and foster greater civic engagement among its populace.
