In a decisive meeting of the United Farmers’ Front, leaders called for the registration of a case under Section 302 against policemen involved in firing upon farmers. Balbir Singh Rajewal declared that, on February 23, farmers would demonstrate by blowing up the effigy of the Home Minister. Rakesh Tikait added that on February 26, a massive tractor protest would take place on the main highway.
The gathering, convened by the United Kisan Morcha (SKM) to address the situation at Shambhu and Khanuri border points, drew leaders from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and other states. SKM, known for leading the 2020-21 movement against the central government’s agricultural laws, played a pivotal role in the repeal of these laws.
The demands for accountability, coupled with planned protests, reflect the ongoing concerns of farmers. The events scheduled for later this month signal a resurgence of collective action within the farming community, aiming to assert their rights and ensure justice for the recent incidents.
