The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted several raids in Punjab, targeting locations in Moga, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Jalandhar. These raids are connected to a case (RC-17/2023/NIA/DLI) related to Khalistani supporters who demonstrated outside the Indian High Commission in Ottawa, Canada, in 2023. During the protest, anti-India slogans were raised, and Khalistani flags were placed on the boundary wall of the High Commission. A notable member of the group also threw two grenades inside the building.
The NIA’s FIR points to Amarjot Singh, a relative of jailed Waris Punjab chief Amritpal Singh, as one of the leaders of the protest. The protesters, led by Amarjot, engaged in illegal activities during the demonstration. The NIA has named several unknown persons, including Amarjot Singh, in connection with this case. Earlier, the Special Cell of Delhi Police had registered a case on 8 June 2023 regarding these events.
