Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Jawahar Sircar has announced his resignation from the Rajya Sabha and his decision to leave politics. In a letter to party president and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Sircar, a retired IAS officer, cited the involvement of certain party leaders in corruption and the lack of action against them as primary reasons for his departure.
He expressed deep disappointment over the government’s handling of a recent tragic incident at Kar Hospital, where a trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered. Sircar mentioned that he had waited patiently for a month, expecting Banerjee to take strong and direct action in support of the junior doctors, similar to her past responses.
However, he felt that the government’s delayed and inadequate punitive measures were not enough. Sircar’s resignation reflects his growing disillusionment with the current state of affairs within the party, as well as his frustration over the lack of accountability and justice.
